It’s Tuesday Morning

And a bit later I'll have up my Tuesdays with Dorie post (shocking, I know), and who knows what else.

It's school vacation week, so Bill and the kids are home this week, which is wonderful and fun and at the same time it throws me off, since I don't have any sort of schedule to follow.

Normally my day is broken up into small sections; each section is bookended by all the comings and goings of the rest of the family.  As a result, my own plans are determined by how many hours I have before I have to bring someone to school or pick them up, or bring them to an after school activity (and stay there, usually) and so on, and will Bill be home right after school or is it a day where he has other obligations.

This week is loose and stretchy and fairly free-flowing.  It's weird.  It's a preview of summer.

The weather (so far) has been pretty good.  Rainy on the weekend, but nice yesterday and even nicer today.  I've got a load of laundry in the wash, which I'll hang out in about half an hour, and I'll be making flour tortillas (with a post to follow) and picking the rest of the flesh off yet another trout so we can have fish tacos for lunch.  I might make cookies, too.

Yesterday I baked baguettes, made the sour cream biscuits for TwD, and made a batch of chèvre.  I'm most happy about the cheese.  I love cheese.  But you probably already know that.  In addition to the goats milk cheese, I've also got a lot of whey, and I might also make some bread with it today.  I haven't done that yet, and I really should.  So I'll work on rectifying that.

This morning I made a big breakfast of turkey sausage, bacon, and pancakes (plain and blueberry).  Everyone ate their fill and – best of all – the kids cleared the table while Bill and I were outside inspecting all the gardens.  I may sigh at how time flies and how big my kids are getting, but it's pretty nice that they're old enough to clear the table without mishap.

So that's my little update.  Doing a lot, not posting as much as I'd like, but sometimes that's how it goes.

As for the rest of the week?  Keep your fingers crossed for me – I'm planning to make a batch of cheddar.  Probably on Thursday.  At last!

  1. Tell us how your “whey” bread goes.

I made a batch for the first time a few weeks ago, and I can honestly say I didn’t care for it at all–it was the worst bread I’ve ever made. I didn’t change any of my other ingredients, just substituted the whey in for the milk–maybe that was the problem? Or, maybe it was just a bad batch of bread…

I hope to hear your thoughts!
