Scenes from the Snow

Alex went outside to clear off the platforms for the birds.

And Julia?

She went outside to inspect and explore.

Off she goes.

Time to feed the birds.

First, some sunflower seeds.

Then a mixture of suet, peanut butter, cornmeal, birdseed, and stale goldfish crackers.  I made this last winter and didn’t use it all – it’s lasted nearly a year.

I cut some of the big pieces into smaller bits so the birds can peck at it and the squirrels (who haven’t shown up as of yet) won’t just take it all in one shot.

“Thanks, Alex!”

Alex came inside after that – he’d shoveled the snow off the back steps and cleared a path around the house and up onto the deck.  He’d done enough work for the time being.  He took off his boots and everything, then went downstairs to warm up his cold face.

Julia stayed outside to “help” Bill get started on the driveway.

Her version of helping eventually included lying down in the snow and, later, tossing her shovel into the unshoveled part of the driveway, right where Bill told her not to throw it.

She came inside soon after that.

  1. Wow, Jayne…y’all got dumped on! I can’t believe how big Julia has gotten in just over a year – she’s no baby anymore!

Other than your tiny little footprints in the header – you venturing out in that weather much? Or just staying in and baking? We need a project. Everyone else has one…except I am too uncreative to come up with something. SO you’ll have to think of it!
